Entertainment for the 2012 Kansas State Fair

October 27, 2011

We are in the process of selecting entertainment for the U.S. Cellular Grandstand for 2012 and we need your input. What types of music do you like? Who do you like to listen to? What entertainer(s) would draw an audience?

The Fair contracts with an agency to book talent for us. Each year during the Fair, the talent buying agency will start to send lists of the acts that are available for next year’s Fair. We carefully review those lists to see who is available. We look at the price of the act to determine what the cost of the ticket price would be and try to estimate the number of tickets that we think a specific act will sell. Our staff will ask their friends and family about several acts to get feedback on who they listen to.

Friends, this is where you come in. We are interested in your opinion. Who would you like to see perform at the 2012 U.S. Cellular Grandstand? Please leave a comment on this blog post, tweet (send us a message on Twitter) @KansasStateFair, leave a post on our Fans of the Kansas State Fair Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622 or send us an e-mail through our website at http://www.kansasstatefair.com/contact.php.

Third Day

July 6, 2011

Often, we get asked about the entertainment that is performing at the Kansas State Fair. One of the acts scheduled at the 2011 Kansas State Fair is Third Day. Third Day is a contemporary Christian rock band. Over the years, Third Day has garnered 27 #1 singles, 24 GMA Dove awards from 42 nominations, 4 Grammy Awards from 11 nominations, and 3 American Music Awards. The group has sold over 7 million albums.

Sharing hope and truth through music has long been Third Day’s mission. The band was founded in Marietta, Ga., by Powell and Lee, who then recruited Carr and Anderson from other local groups. After releasing a critically acclaimed indie album on Gray Dot Records, the band signed with Reunion Records and its self-titled major label debut bowed in 1997. Since then Third Day has populated the church and Christian radio with such memorable songs as “Cry Out to Jesus,” “Call My Name,” “Born Again,” “Come Together,” “My Hope Is You” and many others.

Third Day is scheduled to perform in the U.S. Cellular Grandstand on Friday, September 16 at 7:30 p.m.
